Tyler and Claire were high school sweethearts! Tyler recently graduated with a degree in Mechatronics and just started a job as a technician in Anderson. Claire is a junior at Southern Wesleyan University and is pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education. When she graduates in 2022, she wants to be a 4k teacher for Oconee County.

How they met

“I went to Walhalla High School and Tyler went to West-Oak High School. One of my friends from Walhalla was dating one of Tyler’s friends from West Oak. One night, there was a Walhalla/West Oak basketball game and Tyler and his friend played on the team. My friend (that was dating his friend), another girl, and I were going to the game, but before we wanted to get something to eat. Her boyfriend wanted to come with us, so he brought along Tyler and another guy. Tyler and I didn’t talk much that day, but I remember thinking how good looking he was. Actually, all of us girls thought that. We even had our group message named, “Tyler Sherman Lovers.” That night, I called dibs on him. A few weeks went by, and Tyler and I hung out together with the same group of people, but just as friends. Tyler eventually texted me, and I remember my mouth literally fell open when I seen his name pop up on my phone. Within a week, we hung out on our own and started dating on March 13th of 2016. Now, we have been together for over 4 years, and on our wedding day it will be 5 years together!” - Claire

“We went to Anderson and I actually got us lost on the way there. I was in charge of the GPS and I typed in the wrong location (Lol, typical 10th grader)”. - Claire

Favorite thing to do together

“Our favorite thing to do together in the summer is to go on the lake, ride jet skis, tube, and have Tyler pull me behind the jet ski while I waterski. Our favorite thing to do together in the winter is to go snow skiing. We try to go as many times as possible in the winter.” - Claire

proposal story

“We went with Tyler’s family to Beech Mountain to go to snow skiing, which is my favorite place ever to go. We got there Friday night and we planned on going skiing Saturday, which was the day Tyler had planned to propose. I woke up Saturday feeling sick, so we didn’t go skiing that day. It’s funny to look back on because everyone was catering to me to help me feel better so Tyler could propose the next day! On Sunday we went to the ski resort and we were eating ,and I seen something big that was poking out of Tyler’s pocket, which now I know was the ring. Apparently I had asked what it was, but he didn’t answer, and I didn’t notice. We got on the ski lift and went to the very top of the mountain to where Tyler planned on proposing. The camera was accidentally left on the seat of the lift, so they only had the Go-Pro. We were all looking out at the view, and I seen that Tyler’s sister had set up the Go-Pro on the ground and had it videoing. I was so confused on why she was videoing nothing, so I got it and cut it off without thinking. Apparently, he was about to propose before I cut the video off. After that, they all thought I knew it was going to happen, but I had no idea whatsoever! We skied down the mountain like normal, and later on, we went back up to the very top. We took our skis off and walked over to a lookout over the mountains. This time, Tyler’s mom had her camera and was taking pictures of everyone. Tyler then pulled me to the very edge of the mountain with the prettiest view and proposed. I was so excited because I have always dreamed of marrying Tyler. It was the most perfect day ever!” - Claire
