Brodie & Kristi | North Carolina Mountains Engagement Session

Brodie grew up in Aiken, SC so he is kind of a local boy. “I was always outside and got really involved in FFA in high school. I fell in love with agriculture and knew I wanted to pursue a degree in that field at Clemson. I really enjoy the science and research side of agriculture and soon discovered plant pathology. I graduated with my BS in Plant and Environmental Sciences but wanted to take my knowledge further so I decided to get my masters in the same field. The research project I am working on is with peaches which is close to my heart since I grew up not far from the number 1 peach producing area in the southeast. I really enjoy working with the growers and extension agents around the state and love the industry I work in. I will soon be graduating this summer and starting a career before our wedding so I am really excited to see what the future has in store.”

Kristi was born and raised in western Michigan and moved to Florida at 18 where she attended college at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). “In the 9 years I lived in Florida, I got an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science, Masters of Business degree, worked at FGCU as an events coordinator and was involved in a local church. I moved to Clemson, South Carolina when I got a job at Clemson University. I currently work at Clemson in the events department as an event planner and I supervise student event coordinators and other event staff.”

Brodie

first date story

Our first official date we went downtown Greenville, had dinner at Carolina Ale House, then got ice cream at Spill the Beans, walked around Falls Park, and then found a spot by the Reedy River to sit and talked until late into the evening!

Favorite thing to do together

Hiking, going exploring in mountains, going out on Brodie’s boat on any lake, and camping!

favorite physical attribute

Brodie’s favorite attribute of Kristi is her blue eyes

Kristi’s favorite attribute of Brodie is his height

first kiss story

The evening started out when Brodie got a bad scrape on his leg playing church league softball and used that as an excuse to go into Kristi’s apartment to get bandaged up. This was a few days after they were officially dating. When saying goodbye standing at the doorway, he went for the kiss! Kristi was very surprised and kind of confused by the kiss because they had taken many walks at that point and sat together at Baseball games and Brodie never tried to hold her hand! Apparently in a past relationship he had an awkward situation with holding hands with a girl that made him hesitant but instead was fine just going for the kiss!

favorite character trait

Brodie about Kristi – “How Kristi keeps me focused and loves having deep conversations.”

Kristi about Brodie – “Gets me to relax and slow down and enjoy life, even in the middle of a task where I am being very serious and focused.”

Where do you see yourselves in 10 years?

Married with two kids, living near the mountains on some land. Hopefully involved in some way with the foster care system.

proposal story

On February 15th, 2020, Brodie planned a hiking trip to the mountains. They got breakfast on the way and then climbed Bearwallow Mountain. When they got to the top Brodie asked Kristi to look off into the distance at the beautiful view so he could take a picture of her and Cobalt (Brodie’s dog). While Kristi was turned around Brodie got down on one knee, told her to turn back towards him and asked Kristi to marry him! They spent some time on the mountain enjoying the view then when they got back to the car, Brodie gave Kristi a letter for her to read. Knowing she would probably forget everything he said during the proposal (100% happened) he wrote down everything he was planning to say so she could keep it. After that they went to Hendersonville and got a Krispy Cream donut (“the hot sign was on so we had to stop”), found a local brewery to get lunch at and then went back to Clemson where their friends were waiting for them to celebrate!
