Colby + Emma | Chattooga Belle Farm Engagement Portraits | Long Creek, South Carolina
Emma is a Research Assistant. “I work with an amazing company called Vitalink Research. We work on getting new medications and vaccinations approved through the FDA to help improve the lives of many individuals with COPD, Asthma, COVID-19, and many other diagnoses. My job is very rewarding- from the staff I work with, to the patients I have built strong relationships with, to seeing the outcome my job has on the patient's lives.”
Colby is an irrigation and landscaper. He works with a company called D&S Landscaping, and he has worked there for several years now. He builds lots of retaining walls (sometimes out of state), patios, and does lawn work.
Where do we even start with these two?? We had THE BEST time with them on their engagement session!! Since our very first meeting with them we feel like we’ve made the best new friends! Who said I love you first?
It was very mutual, but Emma said it first!
What did you do on your first date?
Dove hunting! It was right up our alley considering most of our time is spent in the outdoors.
Favorite thing you like to do together...
Fly fishing.. it is so relaxing, and if we have free time, you can bet we're somewhere on the water!
Favorite physical attribute
Emma: “That is kind of hard to choose when you have a man like Colby because I have many favorites. But I would have to say his smile is my absolute favorite.”
Colby: “My favorite thing about Emma is her eyes. Her eyes are blue, but they are yellow around the pupil, and it makes them look like sunflowers.”
Favorite character trait
Emma: “Colby is hilarious, and always knows how to make me laugh even when I don't want to. Colby is also extremely romantic and thoughtful.”
Colby: “My favorite character trait about Emma would be her heart. She would take the shirt off her back for anyone in need, and she is nice to everyone she meets.”
Where do you see yourselves in 10 years?
Emma: “In 10 years I will be 31 and Colby will be 32. By then, we will more than likely be in a new home in either Six Mile or Walhalla on a farm (Lord willing), with a kid or two. We will have our chocolate lab, Porter. We also plan on having a black and yellow lab at some point. We will still spend our weekends fly fishing, hunting, horseback riding, and everything outdoors. We will also still be going to church every Sunday morning, as God is rooted deeply in between the two of us.”
Their Story
Emma: “There's a reason people like you and I find each other. Maybe it's God, maybe it's fate; but I know it's not an accident that I found you.” Many people say, “If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans.” God had a sense of humor as He brought Colby and I together in 2019. What started as friendship turned into our greatest love story.
After a few weeks of messaging with each other, we agreed to meet in person. Colby invited me to go Dove hunting with him, and we spent the majority of the afternoon talking. We learned that we had many common interests and values. After that day together, I felt like we had known each other our whole lives. As the weeks passed, I began to consider Colby my best friend. Despite my developing feelings, I was very clear about not wanting to pursue anything more than a friendship. Thankfully, God had other plans for our story as we spent more time together. I cherish the memories of the time that we spent together going to the mountains, spending time outdoors doing our favorite activities, and getting to know each other’s friends and family.
I specifically remember the night in September when our friendship transitioned to something more. Colby had taken me to Eastatoe to look at the stars. I was so impressed by his knowledge and the way he pursued his interests. That night we expressed our feelings for each other and things have never been the same. The following year was filled with joy, laughter, and love. Not long after that night we got our dog, Porter. We spent the year doing our favorite things together whenever we could.
Colby asked me to spend forever with him in December 2020. He had taken me fly fishing at our favorite river. I had lost my fly and was getting a new one out of the case, little did I know, Colby had snuck my ring in with the flies. On one knee, he asked me to spend forever with him. That was the easiest yes I have ever given. I am constantly in awe of Colby. He has shown me grace when I did not deserve it. He continuously pursues me with joy, respect, and compassion. I am so excited to get to spend forever by his side, and I thank God for his enduring sense of humor and the love we share.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”
