Tim + Ashley | South Carolina Mountain Engagement Portraits

Ashley and Tim have known each other for 10 years and met through work. Tim had just transferred to a new job and Ashley was already working there. Ashley— “For several years we worked together and got to know each other very well. Everyone at work would tease us and say, "Y’all sound like an old married couple." Needless to say we would both give each other a hard time.”

Ashley loves shopping, pretty sure she keeps several clothing stores in business. You will never see her behind the wheel of anything other than a mustang, yes there is a little bit of a lead foot. She loves riding around anywhere and everywhere with the radio blasting. She knows half the people in Oconee County and could have a 30 minute conversation with the other half. She loves the warmer times of the year so she can ride around with the windows down, or sit on the porch swing and gossip. Her sense of adventure keeps her on the go. There is always somewhere she hasn't been, and somewhere she has to go. Ashley has tons of friends and makes it a point to keep up with her besties when she can. Pretty sure she keeps lucky strike in business too. She has a stubborn side and loves to argue with Tim about almost anything even though Tim says she is usually wrong. She is a woman's woman, and loves her clothes and her make up. She is already making plans to build a 2000 square foot addition to the house just for a closet. Tim can build just about anything and loves to tinker. He has tons of plans for the house, and Ashley has already started her own list of things for him to make, do, build, paint, or buy.

Ashley says Tim can be a little bit of a nerd at times. He loves reading. He is a bit of a know it all and will argue with a brick wall if he thinks he is right. In his down time he also enjoys playing guitar and learning new songs. Throughout the year you can find him either in a deer stand, on a golf course, or out on the water fishing. He loves to cook and try new recipes, but doing the dishes is a different story. He has a sense of adventure too, and is always willing to go out and try new things, especially with the love of his life. He is country boy at heart and love his boots and jeans, but in the summer wont be caught dead wearing them. This is the only down side of the summer for Ashley, if it was up to her he'd be in boots and jeans everyday.

They are both are 911 emergency telecommunicators, both are shift supervisors. Ashley has been in that line of work for14 years and Tim almost 20 years. They have both been working at the same place for over 10 years. They both love Clemson Football, Go Tigers!! Both enjoy country music and 99% of the time when they are riding anywhere the radio is turned on and they are singing just about every song. They have been to several concerts together and that list will only keep getting longer. Tim is a Randy Travis and George Strait kind of guy and Ashley is a Garth Brooks and Brantley Gilbert kind of girl. They make it a point to find a show on Hulu or whatever they both like and binge watch it whenever they can. Their favorite meal is breakfast- they try to cook breakfast for dinner together about 1 or 2 times a month. Tim is a great purse holder when they go shopping together, and they do go places for him too sometimes. They enjoy spending time together any way they can, riding around to see water falls, or the mountains, or going for a picnic by the lake. Tim has to drive usually because he is not ready to die yet.

Who said I love you first?

Tim said it first and Ashley was right behind him. “We have grown through different levels of love through out the years. We started as friends and over time became best friends. When the stars aligned, we both decided a relationship together was worth a shot. Neither one of us has looked back since.” — Tim & Ashley

What did you do on your first date?

“We are actually struggling to come up with an answer to this question, it was not uncommon for us to go out and do things as friends on a regular basis ranging from dinner and a movie, concerts, shopping, just riding around. We are in agreement that the yes we are officially dating was sometime in the fall of 2020.”

Favorite thing to do together

“Riding around anywhere, going to concerts or shows, going to movies, shopping, sitting on the couch and watching tv, cooking together, going on picnics. Sometimes we argue just for the hell of it. Going out to eat and trying new restaurants, going to church together, spending time with each other’s families and friends, going to see waterfalls or overlooks- pretty much anything that we can do together makes us happy, even the dreaded laundry or cleaning.”

Favorite physical attribute

Ashley— “I love Tim's eyes, his half grin, his beard (I threatened to kill him in his sleep if he shaved it off), the fact that he's a man's man with nice arms.”

Tim— “I love Ashley's beautiful smile, her long hair (this gives her and excuse to spend hours getting ready- and as much as I give her a hard time about taking forever to get ready, she is very, very beautiful), and that she is a curvy woman.”

favorite character trait

Tim— “Ashley has a great sense of humor, and is very confident in herself, she is not afraid to try new things, and of course the argumentative stubborn side, she is a great caretaker.”

Ashley— “Tim’s whit, sense of humor, the fact that he is very knowledgeable about a lot of non-sense, but also knows a little something about a lot of things (if he doesn't he will make it up), very compassionate, and has a go with the flow type of personality, the fact that he is argumentative and stubborn but also knows his role.”

Where do you see yourselves in 10 years?

“We see ourselves married of course, with a house full of kids that look like their momma and have their daddy's eyes and brains, but aren't stubborn. Still prospering in our careers and looking forward to our many years to come. We are hoping to see the world and go on different adventures together.

Proposal story

They went and looked at rings together in the fall of 2021. They looked at several stores and Ashely gave Tim a few ideas about what she wanted in a ring and a few different choices. After a few weeks Tim went back and ordered a ring, but Ashley didn't know which ring she was going to get, or an actual day that it would happen. She made it very clear to him that anytime was fine, just not on Christmas. Tim began looking at a Christmas light display in Murrel’s Inlet in a garden that they both had talked about going to see, and started making reservations to go. However, reservations weren't available yet. He contacted the venue a week later only to find that all reservations had been already been filled for the remainder of the year. Back to square one.

What to do and where to go? He found a Christmas light display that would be perfect and started getting everything planned out. The night before they left for Charleston Tim still had one thing left to do. He had to go meet with her parents and seek their blessing for their daughter’s hand. As soon as he walked through the door, her mother started laughing and said, "No, no no!’ After a few hours of talking, they agreed that he made her happy, and though they did not know Tim very well personally, they knew Ashley truly loved him.

On Friday, December 3rd, Tim picked Ashley up and told her they were going somewhere and to be ready for a long ride and they would be back late. Halfway to Charleston she had no clue where they were going, but she had a pretty good idea what was happening. They made it to Charleston just after dark and found a seafood restaurant to grab dinner before they headed to see the lights. They made it to James Island State park, and there were cars and people everywhere. They walked around for a while and viewed the maze of lights. After a while they found a quiet place to stop and have a seat on a bench. That's when Tim asked her to marry him and opened the ring box, and she said yes! After a few seconds she said, "You better put this bitch on my hand."(this is 100% Ashley). On the way home they both called their families and a few friends, and of course had to make it Facebook official. Ashley confessed to Tim that she knew which ring she was getting because she found a receipt in his room when she was cleaning one day, but she never found the ring. They made it back late late that night, and Tim dropped Ashley off at home.
