How long they’ve been together
Cody and Faith have been together for about a year and nine months (or as Faith said, “1 year, 9 months, 6 days, and 4.5 hours.”).
Before they met, they both were spending all their time in their careers– Cody works for the local Sheriff's office in the Special Operations Bureau, and is also a member of the SWAT team, and Faith is a cosmetologist. Faith said she worked all the time before she met Cody, and when she wasn’t working, she was partying, or recovering from partying. “It was kind of a downhill spiral, I’m not gonna lie. The boy saved me a little bit.” – Faith
How they met
Faith and Cody first met through Faith’s brother-in-law Brandon. Brandon and Cody became really good friends when they started working together at the Sheriff's office, which is when Brandon started to talk to Cody about Faith. Brandon would say things like, “She can be cute when she takes a shower and washes her hair.” or, “She’s a little wild, but she’s ok.”
Cody said the first time he met Faith was at her mom’s house when he went there with Brandon for dinner. Faith was actually there with another date. Faith doesn’t remember seeing him that night, but Cody definitely remembers this as the first night he’d ever seen her. Cody– “I remember thinking, ‘there is no way, I don’t stand a chance with this girl, there is no way.’”
After Faith’s sister Samantha continued to beg Cody to text Faith, he finally gave in, and the two started texting for about 3 weeks before they went on their first date. Faith– “I kind of kept putting him off because I knew I was going to like him.”
They actually coincidentally ran into each other at the gas station the morning of the day they had planned their first date, so that was the first time Faith remembered meeting him. Cody was in uniform, and Faith said he was looking really cute, and she had total confirmation that they were going to get along.
First date story
Cody picked the Universal Joint in Clayton, GA for their first date because Faith said she liked bar food. He spent a lot of time washing his truck and getting everything perfect because he kept thinking, this girl is like a 10 out of 10, and I’m a 2. It was over for Cody from the moment she walked out the door when he went to pick her up. “The way that she walked out of the house– she was confident, and the way that she walked, it was almost a strut. She got in the truck and we instantly hit it off. I thought she was the most beautiful girl that ever walked the face of this earth, and still do.” – Cody
Faith remembered her first real impression of Cody that night was while they were sitting and talking in the truck. Faith– “I was just sitting there, and I had to knock myself out of staring at him, cause I was sitting there thinking about marrying him, and that’s not like me. So, yeah, my first impression of him was like that I was going to marry this guy.” After coming home, she texted her sister and said, “Save the date sister, I’m going to marry him.”
Who said I love you first?
Faith said I love you first– “It was a pride hit, but it was so awkward– every time we talked on the phone, and we would go to hang up, and it was a weird like back and forth for like 4 minutes, neither one of us knowing quite how to say goodbye.” They both knew they loved each other, and neither wanted to be the first to say it. Cody said he wanted to tell her, but he wanted to wait and tell her on a trip to the mountains. Faith got tired of waiting and got tired of the awkward goodbyes. She told him she loved him in the truck right in front of a road called Rosebud Lane. and now Faith wants to get a rosebud tattoo!
Favorite thing to do together
Faith and Cody love doing home projects together, and they consider themselves the Wish version of Chip and Joanna. They love shopping at Lowes. Faith likes to come up with the best random ideas in the whole wide world- she draws them up, and then Cody makes her dreams come true!
Number one physical quality
Cody’s number one physical quality of Faith’s is her eyes.
Faith– “The smallest most random thing that I absolutely love about him is his hands and his forearms.”
Number one character trait
Cody loves her confidence. He said, “When you walk into a room you just breathe confidence. It’s like you walk in and you’re… the way that you walk and the way that you talk just breathes confidence, and beauty and grace kind of fall under that. Well, you’re not really graceful, but the beauty side and the confidence side— you don’t let too much get you frazzled.”
She loves how patient he is with her, and their families, and all the situations she gets him into, like taking engagement pictures, (and frolicking through a field) and talking to an Ipad for a blog post interview. Faith– “Patience. Cody is my yes man, he doesn’t say no to me ever, and not because I’m spoiled, but I think it’s because he loves me, and he just knows that if I ask him to do something, he will do it to make me happy.”
Biggest challenge faced as a couple
One of the biggest challenges they’ve faced as a couple is understanding their individual insecurities– working through their pasts and their mess-ups. They have worked together to communicate and listen to each other. They have not gotten into any huge fights. “I’m a firm believer in why are we going to fight about this if we can talk with each other.” – Cody
Faith says, “Our insecurities are very similar, but we were looking at them from different perspectives, and just trying to figure out how to work through things as a couple.”
How has your fiance changed you?
Faith– “Cody made a comment one time about my crazy, hectic party life that I lived, and when we started to get kind of serious, he said that he was the ‘peace to my chaos.’ He mellows me out, which was much needed. He changed me in the way that it brought peace to my life.”
Cody says that Faith takes his stress away– “When I walk through the door, all the stress of the day from work just is gone. It’s no longer work Cody, I’m just Cody.” Faith has also brought Cody out of his comfort zone. She has helped him not be so jaded and is a little less negative. She has pushed him to do fun things like go to concerts even though he hates crowds. She’s changed his wardrobe (so he can have cute clothes now), and she’s changed the way he wears his hair.
In 10 Years…
Faith hopes not to be working so much because she wants to spend time with her husband, and maaaybe have kids.
Cody wants to be happy - happy and healthy - not lose the love and happiness they now share. He hopes to have a small family, have built a house, and just be better people– “better with each other and better at raising a family, and better citizens in general.”
Proposal Story
Cody planned for 3 or 4 months trying to figure out how to propose. He had one of Faith’s friends as his 3rd party person (he couldn’t talk to her mom or sister, because she would find out everything). Cody– “I felt really bad, like I was cheating on her the whole time I was planning it because I kept so many secrets, and I kept having to delete all the text messages.”
His original plan was to go out on the boat with her aunt and uncle, and then her family would all show up at her aunt and uncle's house with a banner that he had made. He even had planned to have a drone fly over and video it all.
But, it rained, and the last thing Faith wanted to do was go out on the boat. She just wanted to stay inside and watch football. The morning this was all supposed to happen, they ended up having a water leak in their basement because of all the rain
As a backup plan, Cody decided to do it at her mom and step dad’s house. Her family went into full panic mode trying to get everything together. Cody and Faith went to Lowes to kill time, giving her family time to get everything ready. She was starting to get ill because the game was on, and people were texting her about it, and they were walking down every aisle of Lowes. Faith– “And then, after walking down every aisle of Lowes, we went to Harbor Freight and walked down every aisle there, and the only thing he bought was a pack of zipties.”
Finally, after sneaking into the bathroom to call her sister and make sure everyone was ready, they headed to Faith’s mom’s house.
They walk in and the house is dark, and no one is around. Then they walked out onto the back deck where everyone was, and Faith instantly saw the banner (huge and yellow), and turned around and started crying. Cody got down on one knee and asked her to marry him, and of course, she said YES!
