Jody and Summer | Upstate South Carolina | Backyard Wedding

How long was your engagement?

A little less then three months!

Where did you get married?

My parent's backyard!

Tell us about the moment you seen each other for the first time on your wedding day.

Summer: “I just knew I would fall apart (I'm the biggest cry baby there is), but the most overwhelming peace came over me right before waking down the isle. I was able to take it all in, and I was just overwhelmed with so much love for him.

Jody: “I was excited and full of so many emotions. She was beautiful!”

Summer, Describe your husband on your wedding day.

So handsome and so sweet!

Jody, Describe your wife on your wedding day.

Perfect.

Were there any rituals, traditions, or sentiments that were part of your wedding?

We only did the things that would mean something to us. My dad walked me down the isle and gave me away, and we potted a tree for our unity symbol (and plan on planting it one day when we are in our forever home).

What were the top 5 moments of your wedding day?

The ceremony. We wanted something that was meaningful to us.

Reading letters to each other, and including AnnaLeigh in it as well!

Seeing each other for the first time. We did it the traditional way, and I am so glad we did!

Having our family and friends with us and being able to spend some time with them at the reception!

Getting to give Anna her necklace right after the ceremony with just the three of us there.

Were there any moments that made you cry?

Jody: “Summer walking down the aisle, and when she read her letter to AnnaLeigh.”

Summer: “I fought tears all morning just being overwhelmed with so many emotions and just feeling so blessed. It felt like God was pouring his blessings out on us- from the beautiful day he gave us, to all the people that came to help make our day so special and surrounded us with so much love! I held it together through the ceremony, but when we stepped away from everyone, I fell apart and all the emotions from the day just completely overwhelmed me.”

Most weddings never go quite as planned. Was there a blooper or “oops” moment at your wedding?

The dance song for the first dance with my dad and our first dance got mixed up, but we did not mind at all!

Is there a story to the song you picked for your first dance?

No, it just was perfect for us!

What was your best memory from your wedding day?

Jody: “Watching Summer walk down the isle.

Summer: “The whole ceremony. It all just was so special, and I was so excited to become his wife. Also, he was so emotional watching me walk down the isle, and let's be honest every girl likes to see that.

Describe newlywed life in three words.

Jody: “Exciting, adjustments, loving.”

Summer: “Overwhelming (in a good kind of way), fun, way less busy (I stink at this whole three word thing).”
