Sara + Jonathan | Wedding Day | Pendleton South Carolina
How long was your engagement?
We got engaged in October of last year
Where did you get married?
We had a really intimate ceremony at our brother and sister in laws house.
Tell us about the moment you seen each other for the first time on your wedding day.
We had a first look and we both agree it was the best part of the whole day. It let us experience that raw moment with just each other. By the time we got to the ceremony it was just fun and the pressure was off to just enjoy those moments with our family.
Sara, Describe your husband on your wedding day.
I wasn’t nervous on our wedding day until going to the first look. On the way, my best friend drove and my stomach was in a ball of knots. I wasn’t sure how either of us would react. When Jon turned around for our first look, it was like the rest of the world turned into a slow blur and he was the only thing with some clarity. I know it’s corny, but it really did feel like he was the only person on the planet. He was so handsome and it really solidified that I was getting to marry my best friend.
JOnathan, Describe your wife on your wedding day.
She was so beautiful. At the same time it was as if I was seeing her for the first time. There was almost a spiritual component where I felt like we were showing a special part of ourselves to each other and seeing each other for the first time. I’ve never been so happy to see anyone in my life. She was pure light.
Were there any rituals, traditions, or sentiments that were part of your wedding?
Sara— “I walked down the aisle to an instrumental/wedding version of the song from “Up”. That movie has always been so special to us and we wanted small, discreet hidden Disney moments in our wedding. I kept that “walking down the aisle” song a secret from Jon. Every time I listened to it prior to the wedding, I cried and imagined what it would be like to see him on our wedding day.”
What were the top 5 moments of your wedding day?
1. Saying our vows during our first look. It was easily the most special part of the day
2. The ceremony. It was so intimate and special with just our immediate friends and family at such a special place.
3. We took shots of fireball before going down the aisle with our whole family. It lightened the mood and was so fun.
4. We had a “reception” on Friday at the Esso Club. We planned a bigger reception party the next day, but had something small the day of the ceremony. I worked at the Esso during college and it was apart of our “how we met” story. Our new last name was on the Marquis sign and our family photo bombed behind us. We loved it!
5. After the reception on Friday we went out to downtown Clemson with friends and family. One too many cocktails may have been had, but the memories made that night will last a lifetime. We’re so thankful and blessed to be loved by the ones around us.
Were there any moments that made you cry?
Sara—”I wasn’t sure how I would react during our first look, but cue the water works. I honestly couldn’t even get my vows out without sobbing.”
Jon— “When Sara walked down the aisle to the “Up” song with her dad. Thank God they danced down the aisle at one point because I was about to lose it!”
Most weddings never go quite as planned. Was there a blooper or “oops” moment at your wedding?
All things considered I think our wedding went pretty smooth. On Saturday, we had a reception party and it POURED down rain. The DJ started playing every song imaginable about rain and we danced the night away. It honestly made it 10x more fun.
Is there a story to the song you picked for your first dance?
We danced to Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves at our reception party Saturday. When we first started dating we used to listen to that album on the back porch of my apartment and watch the stars. I realized Jon was “the one” while listening to the Golden Hour album by Kacey.
What was your best memory from your wedding day?
Sara— “My best memory from our wedding day was our first look. I can’t explain enough how special that moment was.”
Jon— “My best memory was when she tapped me on the shoulder to turn around for our first look.”
